New and improved play area for Trull Village Playing Field
Parish Council invests in new park facilities.
Trull Parish Council, 23 March 2023 – Work has started on a project to refurbish and improve Trull’s King George V Playing Field (KGV). Funded with £100k of CIL (Community Infrastructure Levy) money, the plansinclude a new play scheme, refurbished paths, and outdoor furniture.
Included in the play scheme will bean accessible roundabout and trampoline, a 26-metre zip wire, and a log-based climbing frame and slide. A new double flat swing willsit alongside the basket swings already in place for younger users. The varied and challenging apparatus will encourage children to play, apply team-work and learn.
The second phase of the project, planned for April, will see the introduction of new wooden picnic tables and seating. While in May,the paths will be resurfaced and 100m distance markers added. Four new pieces of outdoor gym equipment, carefully chosen to benefit all ages andthose members of the public looking for an al fresco work out, will be installed on the East side of the field.
Trull Parish Councillor and Project Manager, Martine Naughton, said, “We undertook a community consultation in order to identify how funds should be spent and the KGV playing field was one of the most popular suggestions. The local community has been incredibly helpful in describing what they want to include in the park. We hope we can provide an experience that is imaginative and inclusive.”
To minimise disruption, the existing toddler and junior play area will remain open while the new equipment is installed. Project phases one and two are expected to be complete in time for a planned Coronation Picnic in the Park on the 6th May 2023.
CouncillorNaughton added, “The King George V Playing Field isthe jewel in the crown of Trull village andthe new equipment and furniture will be mostly made from natural materials which should complement itssemi-rural character. We have been committed to bringing better play facilities to Trull for some time, so it’s fantastic to see this work underway.”
